While I was in class I kept hearing that our very own Drama Club, were putting on a show for students and anyone from the Beaufort area. I thought it sounded entertaining, and very interesting, so I went on that Saturday. I had a very busy day, I helped out with Habitat For Humanity. I helped a friend and fellow reporter to gather donations both money and electronics, phones, dvds, cds, computers that would all go to a company that give money for these objects to build houses for those people who may have lost their houses in natural diasters, floods, fires, that kind of stuff. I told people what donations would go for and they were willing to give. I thought it was a good cause and so did they.
So that night I went to the production. I got there a little late from helping out with Habitat and I had to drive too but it was so worth it. I knew that some of my classmates where in the production. I thought they really did a nice job all of them. Poor Bill, or should I say Arlecchino kept getting kicked the whole show. I know he went home red, lol. Arlecchinowas really witty, and he was very cunning. He tried to be a servant to two masters without them knowing about it. It worked until he messed up their suitcases. He gave one master a picture from the other suitcase and he tried to cover his track saying it was from his other master who gave it to him before he died.
While watching the play, I noticed that the play was a lot similiar to Shakespeare's Twelfth Night. It was similiar because there was deception, there was love triangles and there was a letter. One of the characters, I can't remember the name but it was one of the masters. Bill's character thought this person was a man but she revealed herself by taking off her hat that she was a woman. That reminded me of Viola who was trying to disguise herself as Cesario, a woman wearing man's clothing. There again comes that popular saying, "Clothes don't make the man." Also, Abby and Bill's characters had a letter given to him by one of his masters to deliver but they read it. The letter scene reminded me of how Maria came up with the idea to trick Malvolio.
There was also miscommunication, well more specifically, when the two masters found out that the other was still alive. Just like Olivia and her twin Sebastain, they both believed the other was dead. I also noticed at the end of the play everyone coupled off just like in Twelfth Night.
As you can see there were alot of similiarities. All in all, I thought the show was well done. I enjoyed it, I laughed, I listened and I watched. I had a really good time.
