Marriage: Nothing Has Really Changed
In the Book of Common Prayer, I realized how the majority of everything in this passage has evolved to be what reverends and ministers recite today. We all know the most famous line, "Dearly beloved we are gathered here today to join this woman and this man in holy matrimony..." This was also the first line in the Book of Common Prayer. I noticed that in the Book of Common Prayer, it showed how men were superior to women because all he had to do was to love and keep her, but she on the other hand had to honor, and obey him, meaning she had to listen to him, and do whatever he told her to do. Wow, that is so crazy, that just shows the mindstate of the people back then. Now at most weddings, the women ask the preacher or reverend to leave out that line. I think it should be left out. Marriage is a partnership and not a relationship between boss and worker.
